It really is beginning to look and feel a lot like Christmas around these parts.  And as there are so many things I would like to do and experience with Matt and Milo this holiday season, I’ve decided I need to get a bit more organized.  Now, the following list isn’t exhaustive, and there are several things that aren’t particularly child friendly – namely David Sedaris – but I know from experience that each one will help me feel that little bit more merry and bright during my favorite month of the year.

  • Stir up Sunday
  • Pick out a Christmas tree and decorate it whilst listening to festive music
  • Make cinnamon ornaments
  • Help Milo write a letter to Father Christmas
  • Watch Elf
  • Unwrap and read The Polar Express
  • Make paper snowflakes to hang in our windows
  • Listen to the This American Life Christmas podcast
  • Write, address, and post our Christmas cards
  • Visit Santa’s grotto
  • Take Milo to the production of Two Little Boys at the Lakeside
  • Make and decorate Christmas sugar cookies
  • Watch A Charlie Brown Christmas
  • Visit the Christmas market in York
  • Attend Milo’s school nativity play
  • Make orange pomander balls
  • Read The Night Before Christmas
  • Take Milo to see Rise of the Guardians
  • Ice skate at the rink set up in the market square

Phew!

I’m getting excited just thinking about it!

We would also like to sponsor a child or family this Christmas, but I’m having trouble finding any information on how to do this in the UK.  Any ideas?

  1. All I’ve done so far is made mincemeat, well quincemeat, but you’ve made me feel very excited about next month. Great ideas, must get organised so we can really enjoy some of the things you suggest. Andrea

Boy! We are so impressed that you are sooo organized and we aren’t even to “turkey day” yet! The “Polar Express” is Milo’s cousin’s favorite movie AND thus, it has been viewed just about every time there is a sleepover, if not more in between. I have purchased my Christmas cards and am quite pleased with my choice this year. However, I am going to be much more particular about those I post to this year, due to the cost of our postage (48 cents) 1st class. I’ll end up paying more in postage than the cost of the cards. Santa’s elves are already hard at work out at the Mall and other stores. The kid’s can even go visit Santa at the Mall! Doesn’t seem quite right…heaven’s, Halloween JUST happened AND Thanksgiving hasn’t even occurred!! Dad & I think, as a society, we need to slow down, AND stop and smell the roses. However, we are really looking forward to the holiday season. Seems to arrive faster & faster each year. Dad & I are getting ready to put up our outdoor Christmas lights. (Talk about possibly rushing the season.) We want to beat the cold & snow that has already been predicted. Have fun checking your Christmas “To Do” list!

Just an additional comment…the SNOW arrived last night! Have an inch or so and it is still coming down! We do have to admit, it is a beautiful site with the very 1st snowfall of the year. Now, we are going to be entering the ugly line at the tire store to have our snow tires put on. Oh, the joys of the season.
